It was the type of gorgeous spring afternoon that just pulls you out of the house into the outdoors! So I went to the Tualatin Hills Nature Park with my camera in the late afternoon. I hiked around the “Big Pond” to a viewpoint where I was treated to a view of this beautiful Great Blue Heron fishing in the pond. I set up my camera and tripod, and the heron was so cooperative! He would “pose” in one position for long enough that I could easily compose each shot and manually select the settings. Then all of a sudden, whoosh! He took off in flight!! Luckily, I was looking through the viewfinder at that moment, and by reflex I snapped the shutter to get this photo. Had I anticipated the prospect of him taking off in flight, I should have used a higher ISO so that I could have been using a faster shutter speed.
